The C. Louis Meyer Family Foundation was created to further public
welfare through the relief of poverty and suffering, the advancement
of education, the promotion of health, and the extension of the influence of religion.
Mary Meyer was a large supporter of education and believed that the Sandhills area needed a college to meet the needs of the community. With this in mind, in the 1960ís Mary Luman Meyer donated 240 acres in Pinehurst, NC for the Sandhills Community College.
The college is a member of the North Carolina Community College System and was the first comprehensive community college in North Carolina to offer a college transfer program. It serves over 4,000 students and offers classes ranging from horticulture to nursing and everything in between.
Several years ago the college named the Science building Meyer Hall in honor of Mary Luman Meyer. The C Louis Meyer Family Foundation made up of Maryís decedents continues to support the college to this day.
